Meet Davey
As long as I can remember, I have always loved animals. I grew up with 3 dogs and from a young age I was active in caring for, playing with and loving them. As a child, you might say I was *obsessed* with dogs; checking out every book I could get my hands on at the library, avidly watching animal planet, and scouring the internet learning about different dog breeds, dog training methods, and of course, watching all the cute puppy videos. When I was 12 and a neighbor's dog had a litter of puppies, my parents couldn’t deny me any longer, and all my research paid off! I got a dog of my very own, whom I named Petey. I was responsible for his training, walks, feeding and general care, and it was so rewarding to grow up with him.
Throughout my teenage years, I helped neighbors care for their pets, whether it was providing after-school dog walks or checking in and feeding their dogs, cats, or bunnies while they were on vacation. This side work continued during my time in college, culminating in a friends dog staying with me for 3 months while she pursued an out of state program. After graduating from American University and feeling unsure about the job market in my field, pivoting to working with animals was an easy choice for me to make.
I have been a pet care professional since 2016. Over the years I have worn many hats: dog walker, cat-sitter, doggy daycare attendant, pet taxi driver, pet photographer, and overnight boarding buddy. This experience has proven invaluable; I have worked with pets of all shapes, sizes, species and temperaments. This has included befriending tiny toy dogs that “don’t like anyone”, providing attentive care to elder dogs experiencing hearing and vision loss, teaching many puppies “how to dog”, and earning the trust of cats needing daily eye drop application. I bring a calm, empathetic energy to my work that allows me to meet every pet at their level and build a personal, individualized relationship. I strongly believe that working with animals is my calling, and all pets entrusted to my care are treated like family.
